We celebrated our 6th anniversary at Luminas Strategy this week. As I thought about how to share the highlights of the journey thus far, it seemed only fitting to spare our clients, partners and supporters the painstaking experience of reading an anniversary version of the dreaded holiday letter that seems to go on forever. So, we opted for a kinder and gentler approach to sharing the highlights – hoping to forgo the yawns and eye rolls in exchange for a few smiles to lighten your day.
First, thanks to all of the team members (past and present), clients, advisors and partners that have contributed to our success. Without each of you, there would be no Luminas Strategy. Here’s to a few smiles! ???
As you can see, in the early days my kids were the “shipping department” – given the task of packing boxes of signed copies of the book, Winning with Customers (Pigues and Alderman) to our clients. They went through the stages of forming, storming, norming and performing in no time and accomplished the task with flying colors. This was a good sign of things to come.
Our amazing clients and collaboration partners have been generous and helped us to grow and continuously improve. They’re the best!
A particularly memorable event was the opportunity to sign copies of the book at a leading bookstore in my hometown of Memphis, TN. Something I never dreamed would happen. Family and long-time friends came by to wish us well. I cried at least 10 times during the event.
Next, the book, Winning with Customers (Pigues and Wiley), was selected as an inaugural selection of the C-Suite Book Club and featured on Best-Seller TV. Recording this book launch interview in New York City with Camilla Webster was a blast! Okay, the real highlight: Damon John of Shark Tank was interviewed in the slot before me. I got a glimpse of him in the green room and was star struck!!!
One of our greatest early supporters was Ralph Oliva and the Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) at Penn State University. We were featured as a keynote speaker for the annual conference. Needless to say, I had an out-of-body experience when walking into the conference room to see a copy of the book had been purchased for every conference attendee – all senior marketing, sales and general management leaders from prominent B2B companies. #Grateful #Humbled
Another of our notable supporters was with us at the beginning and continues today. It is none other than the Professional Pricing Society (PPS). The organization’s founder, Eric Mitchell, initiated the relationship when we were unknowns and his predecessor, Kevin Mitchell, has continued to offer incredible support. Kevin even enticed me to karaoke after speaking at their annual conference in Las Vegas. I’ve heard there is a video floating around.

We’ve also enjoyed supporting Black entrepreneurs with our expertise. We were honored to lead annual value proposition sessions with participants of the Google for Entrepreneurs – Black Founders Exchange from its inception in 2016 until 2019.

Since our founding, we’ve made the Research Triangle Park (RTP) home. It has been a dream to grow in place – expanding our office while remaining in the RTP Frontier. There is no place like RTP and The Frontier. Our new digs!
